Plateau United subdued a resilient Warri Wolves amid a very heavy downpour in Jos, winning 2-0 to stay 9th on the log.
The downpour caused a delay in the kickoff but the proceeding would dominate the encounter though the final scorelines didn’t reflect that dominance given numerous wasted scoring opportunities. Abba Umar and Mohamed Zulkifilu were the chief culprit in wasting begging chances.
Wolves rarely put up a fight except for occasional forays into the host defence and elected to stoutly defending and committing fouls which were not converted by the hosts.
The deadlock was broken in the 74th minute following a freekick taken by Wasiu Jimoh which keeper Uwueru Michael spilled for Sunday Anthony to slot in the first goal.
Six minutes after, Sunday Anthony corner kick found Mohammed Zulkifilu, who jumped to nod beyond Uwueru for Plateau second goal of the game and his eleventh strike so far.
Wolves coach Ortega Deniran expressed dissatisfaction with the match officials’ handling of the match, citing it as cause for his side’s loss but his counterpart, Abdu Maikaba said he was impressed with his team’s performance in spite of Wolves resilience.
