It is no longer news that Hon. Usman Hamzat won the All Progressives Congress’ primary (APC), held some Saturdays ago to elect who, among the array of constants, is fit to to fly the ruling party’s flag at the LG election for who will be the chairman of Ifako/Ijaiye.
It is equalling a stale news to say that he is one of the younger brothers of the sitting Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr.Femi Hamzat.
Perhaps, what is fresh and newsy is the fact that a former Lagos State House of Assembly member, who was also a former Chief of Staff to the present Speaker of the state, Hon. Saka Obasa; Fabunnmi, was among the constants he floored to pick the party’s ticket. Fabunmi was also one of the aides the speaker sacked recently.
It man interest those who do not know to know that Hamzat is also the incumbent deputy chairman of the local government. He is deputy to Hon. Toba Oke whose tenure ends this year having served as the chairman of the LG for two terms at different occasions.
The position of the chairman is also not new to Hamzat as he once held forth for Oke, when the state house of assembly handed an indefinite suspension on Oke, on allegations of financial misappropriation. That was the first time Hamzat knew the power behind the office, how tasteful it is and the work load in there. Within that period, he was said to have performed above average, that further inspired and equipped him for the big job.
It should also not be dismissed that the fact that he is a blood brother to the current deputy governor was also a plus to him as he went about his campaign among his party members. And the fact that he is the brother of the deputy gov, will also count positively for him at the poll proper as the electorate are likely to queue behind him in the name of bandwagon effect.
Though, we are not of the opinion that the deputy governor swinged the
process to favour him, but that he is his brother is huge plus.
