Ebuka Anakwe’s added time goal on the 93rd minute gave Nasarawa United the edge over Akwa United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) MatchDay 10 encounter at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday. Final scores stood at 2-1, Nasarawa United’s first win after three matches.
An elated Anekwe expressed hopes of scoring more goals as he bids to help his side finish among the top teams.

“This my contribution to our win will boost my morale to achieve my target, which is to score many more goals like I did today and also have a double digits before the season ends.”, said the Lafia City club forward.

The game had barely got off to a start when, in the 9th minute, Ndifreke Effiong body slammed his way through the home side’s defence to slot home, only for the referee to disallow it for a foul in the build-up.

On 56 minutes, Adamu Hassan prodded home Chinedu Ohanachom’s flick to put the home side ahead.

Seven minutes later, it fell to the goalhound, Effiong, who skillfully rounded Franklin Tebo before hitting a direct one past the helpless Danlami Umar, to draw his side level.

With two minutes into regulation time, the Solid Miners would have scored the winning goal but for Akwa United’s Adeyinka Adewale’s point-blank save from Katoh Haggai’s ferocious shot from inside the yard.

In the third minute of added time, Man-of-the-Match, Anekwe was found by Abdullahi Abubakar’s through-pass to give his side all three points.

The win was huge relief for the home fans who’d seen their side lose three games in a row before the remarkable win.
