Barely a month after the resumption of a ten month strike action by Academic staff Union of Universities(ASUU),students face an uncertain future again as Non Academic staff(NASU) have commenced their own store action.
Notices for the commencement of the strike had been given to all chapters as at Thursday as the Federal Government and representatives of the non-teaching staff could not return to the negotiation table as at Thursday.
The umbrella bodies of the non-teaching staff had earlier given February 6 as the commencement date for their strike.
The strike comes at a time students are resuming in phases in different institutions and settling down to academic institutions work.
The two -Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and Non Academic Staff Union of the Universities, NASU- have come under a joint body called the Joint Action Committee.
NASU’s General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, announced the resolve to embark on the strike known in a statement jointly signed by Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, SSANU president, on Thursday, in Abuja.
The JAC of the two unions – NASU and SSANU – had last week threatened to embark on strike on February 5, to press home its demands.
This is to give reports on the outcome of the conciliation meeting and pass resolutions on the way forward. The resolutions of the branches must reach the respective National Secretariats on or before Tuesday, Feb. 9.
“In the meantime, the nationwide strike takes effect from 12 midnight, 5 Feb., 2021, pending any contrary resolution by the branches,”
Government,SSANU & NASU, please have mercy on us Parents…this is becoming unbearable.
