…Says cattle rearing is same as Crude oil

A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sanni on Tuesday renewed his peace rapproachment by calling on governments in the North to work for the return of all herdsmen to their states of origin.

Sani said this against the backdrop of festering controversy and violence across some southern states where there have been attacks between herdsmen and local farmers.

In his proposal, Sanni said cattle rearing is the same as the crude oil obtained mostly in the Southern part of Nigeria.

He said the business of cattle should be developed such that all herdsmen return to their home states and make money.

He cited other parts of the world where counties make huge fortunes.

He said, “The Cattle is the Crude oil of the North. Recall the Herdsmen back home, develop the industry and create wealth.”

Listing the countries where cattle provide huge funds, the former Senator said “Germany earned $4.6Billion from the export of Cheese. Australia earned $7.6 from Beef. New Zealand earned $6.3Billion from Milk. Ireland $1.2 from butter.”

It will be recalled that governor of Kano State Abdulahi Umar Ganduje at the weekend, said movement of cattle from the North to the South should be banned.

He said a lot of investment is going into developing adequate facilities for ranching as part of efforts to ensure herders stay in Kano.
