Ilaro: Killing of Okada rider led to deadly Yoruba/Hausa clash

……As youths took over major streets seeking vengeance
The murder of an unknown young okada rider in Ilaro,capital of Yewa South local government area of Ogun state has led to breakdown of law and order in the hitherto peaceful town.
Eye witnesses inform Newdawnngr that trouble started Wednesday evening when the Hausa/Fulani petty trader accosted the Okada rider over what he described as unauthorised parking of his bike in front of the make shift canopy used by the trader .
Our sources revealed that during the ensuing argument between the duo the Hausa trader struck the young okada rider with a charm which made him fall to the ground.
According to an eye witness, “the trader got annoyed over his repeated call to the youth to move away the motorcycle and there and then approached the youth and beat him with a charm”. The youth slumped, and was taken to hospital where he died in the night.”
As a result,by day break, a crowd of angry youths in the town wielding charms and amulets, machetes,axe and other dangerous weapons unleashed violence on the Hausa-Fulani traders in all their communities and trading posts in the ancient town.
This led to the disruption of both vehicular and physical movement in and around the town as pedestrians and others ran for safety in the absence of law enforcement agents.
However,after hours,the presence of heavily armed Police drafted to the scene was able to restore peace back to the ancient town.
An eye witness to the fracas who spoke with our correspondent said, “This people believe they can get away with anything. If their cows destroy our crops, the Police will advice us not to breach the peace, and even when you are still in the Police Station, someone will just phone from Abuja and they leave you behind. We will not take this lying down, enough is enough”.
The police command in the town is yet to issue a statement as at the time of filling this report while efforts are on to calm frayed nerves and prevent the disturbance from spreading to other towns in the local government.
