Contrary to hopes of a last minute change of heart,not less than 21 labour unions and affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) have called their workers our on strike from Monday September 28 to protest the increase in the pump price of fuel and electricity tarrif.
In separate statements Sunday the affiliate unions which included Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), National Association of Academic Technologists(NAAT),National union of Electricity Employees,Senior staff Association of Polytechnics, Medical and Health Workers association of Nigeria,National Union Of Local Government Employees,Non Academic staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions,Nigeria Union of Railway Workers and National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives and other trade unions.
The commencement of the strike is coming as the talks between the Nigeria Labour Congress,Trade Union Congress and the state and federal government became deadlocked.
