…As Bill Empowering LGS to Regulate Motorcycles/Tricycles pass first reading.
The same fate that befell commercial cycle operators in Lagos this week may be on its way in neighbouring Ogun State as the bill empowering local government areas in the state to regulate their activities has passed through the first reading in the state house of assembly.

Titled ,A Bill on Ogun State Commercial Motorcycle/Tricycle Regulation Law, 2020 ,ithas passed through first reading on the floor of the hallowed Chamber of the State House of Assembly having being read for the first time by the Ag Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Deji Adeyemo before the lawmakers.
The bill with the long title: “H.B No. 033/OG/2020- A Bill for a Law to Empower Local Government Councils to Regulate and Manage the Operation and Union activities of Commercial Motorcycle/Tricycle in Ogun State and for other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith”, was read for the first time before lawmakers at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
When operational, the bill will allow local government councils regulate and manage the operations and union activities of the commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the State and otter related matters.
In the same vein, the bill on the State Judiciary Funds Management Law, 2020 also scaled through first reading on the floor of the hallowed Chamber of the State House of Assembly having being read for the first time by the Ag Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Deji Adeyemo before the lawmakers.
Ogun state shares border with Lagos and with the restriction in their operations in Ogun,it is feared that the initiative may be a proactive measure to stem the tide of influx of the okada operators into the neighbouring border areas in Ogun state and indeed the whole state with the security implications of such a development for the state government.
