Candidates

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published final list of 17 governorship candidates for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

 

The list, signed by INEC Secretary, Mrs Rose Oriaran-Anthony, include Mr Hamzat Obafemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adedeji Doherty of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

 

The candidates represent 17 political parties and are listed alongside their deputy candidates, ages, gender and educational qualifications .

 

Other candidates included Mr Otitoloju Sowore (Accord) Mr Kamarudeen Salawu Kamarudeen (Action Alliance), Mr Oluwadamola Sol-Nuyi (African Action Congress, Mr Bolaji Adewale (Action Democratic Party).

 

Mr Adelaja Adeoye ( Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Mrs Adeyemi Abiola (Action Peoples Party), Mr Oluwapemilerin Odunaike (Labour Party (LP), while Mr Olufunso Doherty is the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

 

Mr Obadia Akinola is listed for the National Democratic Party (NDP), while Mr Onifade Ademoyegun is the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

 

Mr Ademola Onigbokun (National Rescue Movement, Mr Olufemi Olaniyi (Social Democratic Party), Mr Temitope Taiwo (Young Progressives Party) while Ms Helen Peter is the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

 

The INEC final list shows differences in the candidates’ ages and gender.

 

The youngest is Peter of the ZLP, aged 36, while the oldest is Adewale of the ADP, aged 73.

Only Peter and Abiola of the APP, aged 49, are the only female governorship candidates identified in the list.

 

The remaining 16 candidates are recorded as male.

 

The deputy governorship candidates include both men and women, reflecting varying levels of female representation among the parties.

 

The list provides details of the candidates’ educational qualifications, ranging from secondary-school certificates to university degrees and other professional qualifications.
