The yellow cards meant to caution football players for foul play at the U17 world male football tournament in Brazil increased from 34 in the first round to 73 in the second round which is a cool 46.6% increase. It is also an average of three yellow cards per game of the 24 played out of expected 52 games.
The red cards doubled as 4 reds were issued in first round and another 4 in second round making 8 red cards so far.
Here is the FIFA rules on Discipline. In the fair play determination, yellow card means 1 point deduction; Indirect red card (second yellow card) means 3 points deduction; Direct Red Card means 4 points deduction and yellow card and direct red card means 5 points deduction.
The age of the player (allegations of age cheating not reckoned with) seems to show in the number of unforced errors officially noted. This is the lowest age grade matches organized by FIFA and the thinking level showed.
There were six own goals which is an indication of unforced error. There were two from group A – Canada made for Brazil and New Zealand made for Angola; group B – Nigeria dashed Ecuador one and Ecuador got another from Australia; Chile benefitted from Haiti in group C and Tajikistan gave one to Spain. Groups D and F have no record of own goal.
Another indication of error is penalty. There were 8 penalties taken. The following countries had penalty played against them; Hungary -2; Chile -2 while Nigeria, Australia, Netherlands and Cameroon had one each.
The goals scored also increased from 36 goals in the first round to 85 goals after the second round. That 49 goals scored in the second round is a 42.4% increase. It also shows 3.5 average goals per match.
