Displaced residents of Ori Osoko village, a sunburb of Olokuta idiaba Abeokuta have made a passionate appeal to the state Goverrnor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of urgency, sign the anti land grabbing law that has been passed by the eighth assembly in the state.
The appeal was sequel to the recent travails the residents have been facing since August first this year when some thugs came to take possession of houses in the area. They allegedly got a Court judgement even without a survey from the state high Court on a suit number AB/ 535/2018 between one Ayinde Ogunneye and Foluke Ogunneye against four others..
Although, the said judgement and possession notice were served even beyond the boundaries of the disputed land , thereby locking residents of the land they claimed to have shared boundaries with. They chased them out of the homes and locked the doors even without any notice or directives from the High Court to do so.
The latest now is looting of the properties of some of the residents whose houses were locked since August first. All efforts to get the attention of the state police command to arrest the situation have proved abortive. In fact, the residents wrote a save our soul petition to the commissioner of police since August 30 and up till the time of writing this report, there has been no response from Eleweerran. Now, the latest dimension to the ordeals of the residents is looting property of the courageous ones among them. On Friday, 25 October, one of the so called stubborn residents has the electric pole erected in his compound pulled down ,carted away and leaving the live electric cables on the ground. Infact the land grabbers, who were drafted from Lagos, annexed an uncompleted building, converted into an office and were patrolling the community everyday armed with matchet, cudgels and charms , forcing residents to flee.
