Ekiti health commissioner inaugurates Task force to curb quackery in the state

The Ekiti State Government has expressed its readiness to weed off Quackery among the Medical and Health Practitioners in the state.

The Ekiti state commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Mojisola Yahaya Kolade gave the assurance while inaugurating Medical and Health Practices Regulation Taskforce in her office in Ado Ekiti.

Dr Kolade noted that the Taskforce has become necessary in order to ensure efficient health system regulation and to sanitize the health sectors in all its ramifications both public and private including patient medicine dealers .

“The menace of medical quackery has gotten to an alarming and embarrassing level in the state”. She stated.

The commissioner noted that the term of reference of the Taskforce committee include promulgating and ensuring standards of quality of health service delivery across all spheres as well as elimination of intra professional Medical health service quackery.

The Taskforce, according to a press release by Abiodun Olofe,the health ministry information officer,was also to facilitate the implementation of sanctions and prosecutions when needed and perform scheduled and unscheduled health facility visitation .

“The Taskforce shall be responsible for guaranteeing their members who apply for registration of premises and shall proffer standards of practices a regulations of Traditional Birth Attendants” she said.

Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Human Services Dr.Folakemi Olomojobi stated that the Taskforce was inaugurated Primarily to weed off quackery in the Medical and health practices across the state.

Dr Olomojobi expressed great concern over loss of lives to unqualified and quack practitioners especially the Traditional Birth Attendants in the rural areas across the state.

“The committee is to sanitize the health sector
as well as ensuring that no more lives are lost to quackery and unprofessional medical practices in Ekiti state”.she noted.

Some of the members inugurated were selected from Professional association,Medical consultant association,Association of Government medical practitioners of Nigeria Nigeria police force and other relevant associations.
