Two in court for selling fake tickets to motorcyclists

Two unemployed men Michael Moses, 21, and Habeeb Awori, 20, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ajegunle Magistrates’ Court, Apapa, for alleged sale of fake operation tickets to motorcyclists in the area.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendants, whose addresses were not stated, are facing a two-count charge each of conspiracy and breach of peace.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt.Kolade Tedunjaye, told court that the defendants committed the offences on April 13, at St. Mary Anduzor Road in Ajegunle.

Tedunjaye said the duo was caught with fake tickets following a tip-off by some motorcyclists who had fallen victims of the scam.

“They pretended to be ticketing officers from the motorcyclists’ association and forced them to be buying tickets, which were later found to be fake.

“The offences contravene sections 411 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” the prosecutor said.

Section 411 prescribes a jail term of one year for offenders and Section 168 provides a two-year jail term for convicts.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, B. M. Amore, admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Amore then adjourned the case till May 6, for further mention.
