Vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that the source of anger against president Muhammadu Buhari by the opposition was his decision to stop what he described as Grand corruption.
A situation when previous governments dipped hands into the treasury to take money without allocating it for any contract or project but just to share.
Speaking at an interactive session with Christian and youths in Lagos yesterday at Dr podium events center, he said on a single day two weeks to 2015 elections the previous government dipped hands into treasury and withdraw $292million to share among themselves.
Grand corruption is when you dipped hands in to the treasury not to award contract but to withdraw to spend and this has been the character of those opposed to President Buhari”.
He said that today what stands out Buhari is integrity because nobody can discourse sharing the nation a resources with him adding,”you dare not do that and this is why they are not happy because oil blocks are no longer their right to award to themselves”_
“Grand corruption is the reason why we are poor.why can’t we complete Lagos Ibadan road in 16 years, why can’t we complete Aladja- warri rail in 32 years, why can’t we complete the Abuja light rail since 2005 and same with Abuja -Kaduna rail.
“Every year they budget money, collect it and spend it by sharing among themselves.that is grand corruption that President Muhammad u Buhari has stopped and they are not happy and are now ganging up against him”
Speaking further, he disclosed that the $292 million dollars withdrawn from the treasury two weeks to election in 2015 is enough to give to 8million traders to improve their business and the accompanying multiplier effects in the economy as been done now by his government with the Trader money scheme.
He also disclosed that part of the grand corruption which the federal government is trying to recoup is the Strategic Alliance Contract of $3billion perpetrated by three powerful Nigerians which the government is still battling to recoup.
He said that in spite of earning less than 60%of what the previous government earns in 16 years, the federal government has spent over N2.7 trillion on public infrastructure and we have dine more st less cost yet they are angry and want to stop the progress been made.
Professor Osinbajo said the federal government is irritated that those who destroyed the country are the same people,”who said they want to come back to rebuild it and some are even saying they want to sell our resources to their friends”.
He said that the refusal of President Buhari to allow all these is the reason why they are angry and afraid they can’t cut a deal with him.
Professor Osinbajo called on Nigerians vote for a second term for President Buhari to make the country better and take it to greater heights”.
