National President of African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta old students association, Mr. Wale Olutayo has enjoined students of the school to strive to return the school to the high standard it was noted for in the 60 and 70s when it was one of the best secondary schools in the former Western Region.
He spoke the minds of notable old students and past National Presidents among who is Engr Olakekan Adeyinka and Engr Mutiu Adebowale.chief executive of Ist August Construction Company, who together last weekend gathered at the school premises in Its Iyalode, Abeokuta for the commissioning ceremony of an ultra modern library built at a cost of 30 million naira, donated to the school by the club 738 old students association of the school.
They drew the attention of the students to the loss of reading attitude among students of today adding that the decision to revive the reading culture motivated the Club 738 set to donate the library from their hard earned resources.
According to Engineer Adeyinka, the students of today have a duty to live up to the anthem of the school famous for high standard, adding that with the resources committed to the building, the students have no more excuses but to ‘strive to maintain and sustain the high standard of those days and bring back the school’s glory.
In his own remark, the Principal of the senior school, Mr. Elegbede overslept that though it will be difficult to instill the kind of discipline the donors went through while in school yet he will try his best to restore the school’s glory, adding that overstretched facilities have hindered it in this regard.

He alongside the Principal of the Junior school, Mr. Johnson promised to make the best use of the new facility which they noticed came at a time when the school is in dire need of a library after the old library was converted to classrooms to address the lack of enough classrooms in the school.

The Chairman of the Library building committee, Mr. Gboyega Fatoki who was represented by Mr. Isaac Egbetayo, lauded the efforts of the old students to complete the project in record time for the 40th graduation anniversary celebration in spite of the escalating cost of building materials which pushed the projected estimate up.
In his remark, the President of Afrograms club 738, Engineer Kayode Ademolake, the Permanent Secretary in Ogun State Works Ministry also charged the school authority to put the library into good use.

Among those who graced the occasion were Mrs. O. Olusanya, 87, the senior tutor and female hostel mistress, Mr. Sonola, 76, -the schools Laboratory supervisor and Benjamin Oduntan, 86, aka Baba Bose, the school bus driver who all got cash gifts from the club for their contribution to the growth of the school.
