Lagos PDP Gov primary holds today

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship primaries is taking place in Lagos today.
The race is between two notable party members Mr Jimi Agbaje, a business man, activist and member of the Yoruba social political group, Afenifere, who carried the party’s flag in 2015 and came second in the elections and Mr Deji Doherty, another former aspirant in the party.
The PDP remains the leading opposition party in the state and the emergence of it’s preferred candidate after today’s election is expected to influence the nature of the campaign as the ruling party the All Progressive Congress (APC), has just picked a new entrant into politics,  Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, a technocraft , who defeated incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the primaries conducted last Tuesday October 2nd.
Governor Ambode yesterday against all expectations pledged to work with the candidate and party to ensure it’s victory during next years election.
The ruling APC it will be recalled has been in power in Lagos state since the return of democracy in 1999 when former governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,emerged the candidate on the platform of the then Alliance for Democracy(AD) while he won a second term in 2003 by defeating the candidate of the PDP and was the only AD state governor that won’t his re election.
He also successfully handed over power to former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola,(SAN),his former chief of staff who defeated Mr Agbaje, then of the Democratic Party Alliance(DPA), to emerge Governor.
Again in 2015, Mr Agbaje who just decamped to the then ruling party at the center, the PDP, came second after Mr Ambode who won the keenly contested election.
In a telephone interview with Newdawnngr this morning, Mr Agbaje expressed optimism of his emerging victorious in today’s primary and eventually becoming the next governor of the state during next year’s election.
For Mr Agbaje, this will be his third attempt at occupying the Alausa state house.
