Update: First Kwara governor, Bamigboye is dead

The first military governor of Kwara State, General David Lasisi Bamigboye (Rtd) has passed on.

The news of his death filtered to the public from a family source on Friday.
Born 7th December 1940, Bamigboye, an indigene of Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state became the first military governor in 1967 at the age of 27 years after the state was carved out of the old northern region.
During his tenure in office, Bamigboye in 1968 created the Kwara State Ministry of Education with a department to cater for scholarship/bursary matters. As part of his contribution to develop education in the state, he also began the process of establishing the Kwara State Polytechnic which was realized in 1972.
In the health sector, Bamigboye in December 1972 opened the new premises of the famous Ola-Olu Hospital with provision for 35 beds.
Younger brother of the departed, Col. Theophilus Bamigboye (Retd) announced to the public his elder brother passed on Friday after a brief illness.
