Ogun APC crisis over primaries deepens

THE crisis rocking the Ogun State All Progressives Congress over its primaries has continued to deepen as aspirants are kicking against the Indirect option said to have been adopted by the State Executive Committee of the party, insisting that only the Direct option would be acceptable.
The party at a meeting largely shunned by stakeholders said that it was adopting the Indirect option after the consensus option failed when the list drawn up was rejected by the National Working Committee of the party.
Citing its reasons for refusing the Direct option, the party in a release signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Wole Elegbede said that few days to the primaries, updated membership register had not been made available by the National Secretariat and that membership cards were not available.
But a governorship aspirant, Prince Dapo Abiodun described the decision to adopt Indirect Primary as an admittance of failure on the part of the outgoing governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun to carry along all party members in the running of government and party affairs.
Prince Abiodun said that a government which is really in touch with the people would not be afraid of putting its fate in the hands of the electorate.

The aspirant who was on a consultation visit to a three term member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Isiak Akinlade and other leaders in Owode-Yewa said it was a most unpopular step for the leadership of the party in the state to take.
He faulted Governor Amosun’s self acclaimed love for Yewa and Awori saying that it would have been better demonstrated through the execution of meaningful projects in the land instead of attempting to foist an unpopular candidate on them.
He promised to prove his love to the people of Ogun West by addressing their infrastructural and human capital deficit imploring party members across the state not to give up on their clamour for Direct Primary as recommended by the National leadership of the party.
He also urged party faithful to use the ongoing continuous membership registration of the party via the internet to drive the membership of the party.
Another aspirant in a message to Newdanngr.com  reacting to the release on Indirect option said “the release is ludicrously baseless.
The State Chapter of APC cannot just base the mode of Primary which will be conducted by the National body on the issues raised on membership registration. It is constitutional and  the national body to register all members of the APC.
“The primary will take place in some days to come, which means the national body would surely employ their own ways of conducting such primary.
