The Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has described the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) as an institution that has distinguished itself on the global stage for medical excellence and cutting-edge innovation.

The Governor stated this at the Unveiling of the BMU Strategic Plan 2025-2029, six digital transformation assets and the commissioning of two lecture auditoriums, at the University campus, on Monday in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri commended the University’s forward-looking vision, noting that its digital infrastructure would enhance classroom learning and strengthen faculty mentorship.

He, however, noted that no amount of technological innovation in teaching and learning could replace the dedication of lecturers and urged them to always put their best foot forward.

The Governor pledged that the state government will continue to prioritise investment in education and join the management of BMU in the implementation of the strategic plan, which is in line with its ASSURED Prosperity Agenda and produce students with solid technical foundations, across government-owned institutions.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, BMU, Prof. Dimie Ogoina, noted that, driven by its ASPIRE Agenda, BMU seeks to become a nationally respected and internationally recognised health sciences institution, aiming to build a smart campus driven by technology, sustainability, and accountability.

He appreciated the Governor for his unwavering administrative and financial support, which has laid the foundation for BMU to reach global heights, adding that the strategic plan will guide the university’s vision to be named among the top 50 universities and top 30 medical schools in Nigeria by 2029.
