The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has extinguished a fire involving a fallen tanker carrying 33,000 litres of diesel under Otedola Bridge, restoring traffic.

The ‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌agency disclosed this in an update issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, on Monday in Lagos.

It said two adult male victims sustained second- and third-degree burns and were stabilised at the scene before being evacuated for further medical treatment.

According to the agency, the fire was contained through coordinated efforts by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA Response Team, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and Lagos State Ambulance Service.

LASEMA said its paramedics and personnel of the ambulance service provided pre-hospital care to the victims before their evacuation.

It added that dampening operations were 80 per cent complete at the time of the update, following the extinguishing of the fire.

The agency said recovery and evacuation of the fallen tanker would commence immediately after the dampening exercise to ensure the corridor’s safety.

It confirmed that traffic flow along the Otedola Bridge corridor had been fully restored.
