Former Governor of Delta, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan
The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, says late Delta governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was a visionary leader and peace-builder.
Azinge, in a condolence message on Monday, said Uduaghan’s developmental strides in Asaba during his 2007-2015 administration would remain memorable.
The traditional ruler commiserated with the Uduaghan family of Warri North, the Delta government and people, on the death of the former governor.
He described Uduaghan as a distinguished medical doctor-turned-politician and statesman, who served Delta with uncommon dedication.
Azinge said Uduaghan would be remembered as the “Talk Na Do Governor” for implementing his three-point agenda of peace and security, human capital and infrastructure.
He said the former governor’s administration contributed significantly to the development of Asaba, the state capital, through several major projects including the conceptualisation and construction of the Asaba International Airport, the first flyover in Asaba and the development of internal roads.
He said Uduaghan also initiated the construction of the new Government House and Asaba Specialist Hospital, while building the Dome Event Centre.

The Asagba said the former governor also advanced the dualisation of the Ughelli-Asaba Road and constructed the Stephen Keshi Stadium, formerly Asaba Township Stadium.
He added that Uduaghan’s administration remodelled several secondary schools, including St. Patrick’s College, Niger Mixed Secondary School and Asagba Mixed Secondary School.
“Beyond infrastructure, as a medical doctor, he pioneered the free healthcare programme for pregnant women and children under five.
“He also invested heavily in human capital development, including overseas scholarships for first class graduates,” Azinge said.
The traditional ruler said Uduaghan maintained cordial relationships with traditional rulers across Delta and promoted peace, unity and inclusiveness.
He described the former governor’s “Delta Beyond Oil” vision as a testament to his foresight for a prosperous state beyond crude oil.
Azinge said Uduaghan’s commitment to development and peaceful coexistence had left enduring footprints in Delta.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul and for God to grant his wife, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, children and family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Asagba expressed condolences of the Asagba-in-Council, chiefs and entire people of Asaba to the bereaved family and the people of Delta.(NAN)
