Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has called on member states of the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) to redeem their financial commitments to the proposed North-East Air Shuttle.
Zulum, who is also Chairman of the Forum, made the call on Saturday while delivering his opening address at the 13th meeting of the NEGF in Maiduguri.
He said the air shuttle was a significant initiative aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating movement and strengthening economic integration among states in the sub-region.
According to him, Borno State has contributed N10.8 billion, while Gombe State has contributed N5 billion, bringing the total contributions so far to N15.8 billion.
“I am therefore calling on all member states to redeem their share of contribution,” Zulum said.
He said the commencement of the air shuttle would enhance connectivity across the sub-region and support trade, investment and regional enterprise.
The governor stressed that improved transportation networks remained critical to addressing the infrastructural and economic challenges confronting the North-East.

He said the Forum’s commitment to regional connectivity was also demonstrated by the revival of the North-East Joint Trade Fair, which was successfully hosted by Bauchi in 2024.
Zulum urged member states to strengthen collaboration and ensure that initiatives agreed upon by the Forum translated into tangible benefits for residents.
He said investments in transportation, roads, power, water and digital connectivity were essential for reducing poverty, attracting investment and improving the quality of life of people across the region.
The governor said the NEGF remained committed to collective problem-solving, policy coordination and constructive engagement with the Federal Government and development partners.
He urged his colleagues to approach the meeting with a shared determination to address the region’s infrastructure, humanitarian and economic challenges.
- Zulum said the Forum must continue to speak with one voice on issues affecting the collective interests of the North-East while respecting the priorities of individual states.(NAN)
