WAFCON2026: Super Falcons of Nigeria Fail To Chain Lionesses of Cameroon in The Quarterfinals lose 0-1.

…First Semifinal miss in 14 WAFCON tournament. Nigeria Weeps!

African multiple ten times and current champions, The Super Falcons were consumed by the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon by a lone goal in their quarterfinals duel at the Larbi Zouli Stadium in Casablanca Morocco on Sunday night which came out to be great tragedy for Nigerian football.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the male world cup, U17 male and female has no hope, u20 boys as at the time of reporting are 0-3 down to Burkina Faso in Yamoussoukro at sub continental final and now the 10 times African women’s champions that has been in 13 of the 14 semifinal stages was snarled out at the quarterfinals by less fancied Cameroon. A great night that the Falcons could not hear the Falconer and the music in the dressing room has stopped. Cameroon destroyed the drums and Nigerians hang their musical instruments at the srands in Casablanca.

A thunderous interballistic missile of a free kick from outside the penalty box by Myriam Nyadjou in the 20th minute cut Chiamaka Nnadozie who had mounted her wall on one foot as she didn’t see the ball sail into her night. We need CAF technical instruments to know the speed of that shot that must have been faster than lightning.

Cameroon had planned well bringing six changes to her line up with Bihina Michael in goal who single handedly defeated star studded Falcons stripping them of the Super prefix. Esther Kith, Njoya Michaela, Marine Manga in the midfield, Charlene Menema and Yuanna Yakana started the match on a night it was obvious that God was not approving a Falcon victory and Captain Rasheedat Ajibade known as mummy G. O. for her Christian faith profession cried: “Eloi, Eloi la ma Sabactani (meaning my God, my God Why have You forsaken Nigeria)”.

Believe this report for it was a night Nigeria out played Cameroon in every department of the game making 19-8 shots at goal 9-3 on target; dominating play with 60-40% ball possessions stringing 358-254 passes in 4-0 big chances lost even with 5-2 corner kick advantage

Cameroon played like men with 47-15 clearances from the defenders and their goalkeeper made me adjust my eye glasses severally and went for binoculars to ascertain whether Ghanaian legendary Goalkeeper, Henry Carr who we fondly called Henry Cat the wizard when he left Ghana Black Stars to keep the goal for Leventis United of Ibadan did not resurrect in Cameroonian colours. Bihana made 9-2 close saves to usher in Cameroon into their 4th ever semifinal in history.

Nigeria had not shown the champions stuff as she slumped 2-3 to debutante Malawi Scorchers in her opening game, beat Zambians by a Lone Goal and sank Cleopatras of Egypt 6-2. Cameroon beat Mali 2-1; piped Ghana 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Cape Verde.

Both countries are old foes that played themselves 15 times where Nigeria won 9 games, Cameroon won 4 and there were 2 draws with Nigeria scoring 20 of the 29 goals scored. There were notable WAFCON meetings: 1998 Nigeria won the highest scores of 6-0; on 27th November 2018 both played goalless but Nigeria won on penalties 4-2; at the quarterfinals of WAFCON 2022 like Sundays match Nigeria piped Cameroon by a lone goal. Both played two friendly matches this year 2026, in February Cameroon won by a lone goal but in March Nigeria chained the Lionesses 3-1.

Cameroon ranked 71 is at the tournament for the 11th time, never won the title were runners up thrice in 2004, 2014 and 2016. Nigeria ranked 36 has been at all the 14 tournaments and were pursuing their 11th title an unrivalled record in African female football which is now aborted. The Falcons will fly back to Abuja the Nigerian capital on Tuesday with the Nigerian Football lords all in Casablanca singing Lagbaja’s song “NOTHING FOR YOU’ for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Malawi will tackle Ghana at 9pm tonight for the last semifinal ticket.

The last Four teams in the semifinal will go to the FIFA female football World Cup in Brazil next year.
