The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPC Ltd.) says its gas transportation network remains fully available to power stations nationwide.
The company said its subsidiary, NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Ltd. (NGIC), had recorded no transportation-related constraints within its network.
Mr Andy Odeh, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Odeh said the operational records showed no infrastructure-related challenges capable of explaining the current decline in electricity generation.
He said: “NNPC Limited is focused on actualising the Federal Government’s gas development and monetisation agenda, which has driven about 10 per cent growth in gas production volumes in 2026, year to date.
“Gas supply availability is therefore not a challenge, as NNPC remains committed to supporting efforts to improve electricity generation through safe, reliable and efficient gas supply and transportation.”
The clarification followed a statement by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on Thursday.
NISO had attributed the decline in electricity generation to limited gas availability and reduced water inflows into hydroelectric stations.

Odeh said NNPC’s clarification specifically addressed the operational status of NGIC’s gas transportation network.
He explained that gas production, commercial supply arrangements and actual deliveries to individual power plants were separate from transportation infrastructure availability.
He said a comprehensive assessment must also examine generating units’ availability, operational readiness, maintenance schedules and actual gas offtake.
According to him, these factors determine whether available gas supplies can be converted into electricity.
“They should be verified alongside gas supply data to establish the causes of the shortfall.
“NNPC Limited supports a coordinated review of operational data by gas suppliers, transporters, power generators and NISO to identify specific constraints and guide effective interventions,” he said.
Odeh stressed that accurate reporting across the gas-to-power value chain was essential to resolving the challenges and sustaining public confidence.
“Our focus remains on dependable energy infrastructure and constructive collaboration that helps translate Nigeria’s gas resources into more reliable electricity for Nigerians,” he added. (NAN)
