The Black Queens of Ghana on Thursday night at Moulay Stadium in Casablanca Morocco booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 14th WAFCON tournament with a 1-1 draw against the Female Eagles of Mali.
Yeboa Comfort gave an assist to Evelyn Badu to score for Ghana in the 45+3 minute before substitute Kadidiatou Diabete who came in for S. Diarra in the 45th minute equalized in the 51st minute.
Ghana ought to have won the match without a draw but frittered away several chances with 9-3 shots at goal controlling the match in 66.9-33.1% ball possessions and 9-5 corner kicks but they received 16-12 foul calls only for Mali to bag the only 3 yellow cards of the match.
Both Ghana and Mali had met six times with Ghana winning 3 matches and drawing 2 even scoring 13 of the 17 goals in the matches. They both met in WAFCON matches of 15th January 2015 where Ghana won 3-0 away and obtained the highest scores between them 5-0 on 29th of the same January 2015. Does it mean Mali has upgraded? Perhaps yes because last time they met before today on 11th July 2025 they both played 1-1 in a WAFCON match. Ghana is ranked 60 and Mali 84.
Surprisingly the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon ranked 71 ended goalless with lowly rated Cape Verde ranked 120.
Cameroon that had already qualified with 6 points ahead of other teams in group D scored first through Grace Mendoua in the 28th and probably relaxed to give Debutante Cape Verde grace of no humiliation only to grant them an equalizer through Ivania Moreira who scored in the 50th minute.

Cameroon confirmed their top position in the group with 7 points scoring 4 goals and conceding 2 with +2 goals difference; Ghana has 4 points scoring 3 goals and conceded 2 with +1 goals difference; Mali is 3rd with 4 points too scoring 5 goals but conceded 5 goals with zero goals difference meaning Ghana qualified on painfull goals difference superiority of +1 while Cape Verde had only 1 point scored 3 goals and conceded 6 in -3 goals difference.
Ghana will meet Malawi (not Zambia as we formerly reported) in the 4th quarterfinal on Sunday at 9pm; the same Sunday that Nigeria will play against Cameroon at 6pm in the 3rd quarterfinals.
Algeria will open the knockout stages against Ivory Coast at 6pm on Saturday while hosts Morocco will meet South Africa at 9pm.
The Semifinal will see CIV/Alg winner meeting Malawi/Gha winner in 1st Semifinal and Mor/RSA winner vs Cam/Ngr winner in the 2nd semifinal.
