Political stakeholders in Kaduna Central Senatorial District have endorsed former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, as their preferred candidate ahead of the forthcoming senatorial primaries.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday at the campaign office of Gov. Uba Sani in Kaduna, where party leaders cited Sani’s popularity, credibility and performance during his previous tenure in the Senate.

Speaking at the event, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Sadiq Mamman Lagos, said the decision followed extensive consultations among stakeholders across the senatorial district.

According to him, the consensus reflects the collective position of key actors, including local government chairmen, members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, commissioners and party officials.

“Major stakeholders across Kaduna Central, including local government leaders, have agreed on a candidate.

“This decision is based on credibility, proven track record and widespread acceptance as it does not mean others cannot contest the primaries,” he said.

Lagos emphasised that the endorsement does not foreclose a competitive primary, noting that the party remains open to all aspirants.

He added that the move was aimed at presenting a candidate with strong electoral value and broad acceptability.

In his remarks, Sani called for fairness, stability and inclusiveness in governance, urging political actors to prioritise national unity over personal ambition.

“If we desire peace, stability and economic progress, we must respect fairness and established principles of balance and inclusion.

“Leaders should be given the opportunity to complete their tenure so that equity and justice can be preserved,” he said.

Sani expressed appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders for their support, reaffirming his commitment to democratic values and service delivery.

“I remain grateful to all party leaders, commissioners, lawmakers and stakeholders for their support and together, we will strengthen democracy and deliver meaningful dividends to our people,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event attracted party officials, supporters and local government representatives across Kaduna Central, signalling early political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. (NAN)
