The David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted the Abuja Federal High Court’s ruling over its state congresses where new state executives were elected.

It will be recalled that the court had on Wednesday nullified the state congresses and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise the elected state executives.

The presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdumalik, ruled that the tenure of current state executives must end before any fresh election can be conducted.

Reacting to the judgement in a statement issued on Wednesday, the factional ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, maintained that the election of the new state executives did not truncate the tenure of the current executives.

Abdullahi noted that the tenure of the current executives is expected to run its full course before the inauguration of the new ones.

“The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to media reports that the Federal High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, has sacked the elected, but yet to be inaugurated, State Chairmen of our party.

“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives, which will run their full course before the newly elected State Executives are inaugurated.” The ADC spokesperson wrote.

Abdullahi said the faction’s legal team is currently reviewing the court’s judgement and will advise the party on the next line of action at the conclusion of the review.

“Nevertheless, the leadership of the ADC has instructed its legal team to review the said judgment and advise the party appropriately.” He added.
