Pensioners
The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended Gov. Uba Sani for approving the release of N4.29 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights.
The union described the move as a strong reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor recently approved the disbursement to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers across state and local government services.
In a letter of appreciation jointly signed by the State Executive Chairman of the NUP, Aboman Ladan, and Secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the union said the intervention had brought relief to retirees and restored confidence in the government.

The union noted that the payment “has not only put smiles on the faces of pensioners but has gone a step further in renewing their hope on all other pending entitlements.”
The union described the development as a timely intervention, noting that many members had waited years to receive their entitlements.
“For numerous bereaved families, this gesture has erased their burden and restored their faith in government,” the letter stated, adding that the administration had demonstrated compassion and commitment to the welfare of senior citizens.
However, the union urged the governor to address outstanding liabilities, pointing out that some pensioners, particularly the elderly, were yet to receive their benefits.
The union expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to settle all pending obligations, citing his track record and goodwill.
A breakdown of the approval shows that N3.91 billion will be paid to 1,392 beneficiaries under the Contributory Pension Scheme (accrued rights), while N374 million will go to 245 beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme, covering gratuities and death benefits.
In total, 1,637 beneficiaries are to receive payments.
NAN reports that with the latest disbursement, the Sani administration has paid a cumulative N17.79 billion in pension-related liabilities since assuming office, benefiting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.(NAN)
