Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State have declared that they would not be intimidated into abandoning their mission to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
This is as they commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, for his leadership and support, which has revitalised the party for electoral success.
Speaking at the 99th State Executive Committee meeting over the weekend, leaders of the party, including the state chairman, George Turnah and a Board of Trustees member, Great Joshua Maclver, stated that the APC was living on borrowed time because the mass of Bayelsans living in the communities are supporting the PDP.
Turnah, who hinted that the PDP would shock naysayers in the 2027 elections, noted that the party has, through the e-registration process, built momentum with its support base.
The chairman, while noting that PDP was ready to reclaim its mandate, maintained that it would adopt the direct primaries, which would ensure that candidates flying the party’s flag are backed by the people.
“We have started the e-registration process. We are working constantly to ensure that our people get registered. We have seen from all assurances by our leaders that the PDP is ready. We are also preparing for the primaries. SEC has approved our preparation for the primaries. It is going to be direct primaries, which will require the mass mobilisation of our people. The idea is that once candidates emerge from the people, it will be as good as winning the election,” he said.
Turnah, in the course of the meeting, moved a motion for the SEC to pass a vote of confidence in the national leader of the party, Wike, in recognition of what it described as his courageous and stabilising leadership in sustaining the party through challenging times.

The SEC also approved the nomination of MacIver as a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP to represent Bayelsa State.
He was also adopted as the leader of the party in the state, signalling a renewed drive toward unity and consolidation within the PDP fold.
Maclver, the former deputy-governorship candidate of the APC in the 2023 governorship and major financier of the party, in his remarks, expressed happiness with the grassroots support the PDP is enjoying in Bayelsa State.
According to him, going into the 2027 elections, the PDP remains the favourite party among Bayelsans in the rural areas.
He assured that in his local government, Southern Ijaw, he would lead the party to win the four House of Assembly seats and the House of Representatives seat.
