Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has expressed confidence that the South-East will give 80 per cent of its votes to President Bola Tinubu during the 2027 general elections.

He made the pledge on Thursday during the opening of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway to vehicular traffic.

Speaking during the event, which was designed to ease congestion ahead of the Easter celebrations, the minister urged South-Easterners to adopt a strategic approach to aid their desire to produce the country’s next president.

“I want to call on the leaders of the South-East to be bold in persuading our people to vote for Mr President,” he said.

He added that governance is anchored on “development, building infrastructure, ensuring fairness, promoting equity, and upholding justice.”

Umahi further stressed the need for overwhelming electoral support, saying: “We can’t afford to give him anything less than 80 per cent; do that and leave the rest to us. We’ll boldly go to the negotiation table.

“Let no one divide our votes; let no one confuse us. I was shouting that in 2023 when I was the governor: prepare the way for the Lord.”
