The Pentagon said Tuesday that about 140 U.S. service members have been wounded during 10 days of sustained attacks tied to the Iran conflict.

Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the wounded include eight troops with life-threatening injuries who are receiving the highest level of medical care. The update provides the clearest accounting so far of U.S. casualties tied to Operation Epic Fury, which has involved the deaths of seven U.S. troops as of Monday.

“Since the start of Operation Epic Fury, approximately 140 U.S. service members have been wounded over 10 days of sustained attacks,” Parnell said in a statement. “The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty.”

The war — which is in its second week — has seen thousands of American and Israeli air strikes targeting Iranian leadership, as well as Tehran’s nuclear program and missile installations.

President Donald Trump has said the assault will continue until an “unconditional surrender” by Tehran, though U.S. officials have offered conflicting views of what an American victory would entail, even as they’ve moved to assure the public that ground troops will not be involved.

Tehran’s de facto leadership so far has struck a defiant tone and hasn’t given any public indication that a surrender is coming. (POLITICO)
