Says office of IG should be moved to Internal Affairs for Training and monitoring of state police
Gen Isola Williams
Barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu urged the Senate to amend the Constitution to provide for state police, a former Director of Training and Doctrine of Nigerian Army,General Isola Williams has called on the law makers to enact far reaching laws to accomodate sub-national Policing towards achieving an all encompassing Policing system for the country.
This recommendationts, he said, is necessary to reorganise the Police system and make it more impactful for the country.
In an online chat with Newdawnngr.com, the former secretary of Transparency International is of the opinion that before the creation of state police, there is a compelling need for reorganisation of the force to make the Inspector General of Police come under the ministry of internal Affairs for proper coordination of the subnational police system as is done in other advanced countries.
He said the IG should be left to monitor training, performance and evaluation of state police on a quarterly basis and the report used by the ministry to evaluate the security situation.
This system he said is needed for a country like Nigeria.
