Fatal crash:29 CDA Under Iyonu-Oluwa ACDC calls for Re- Design of Ota Toll Gate .

Following the disastrous accident that claimed multiple lives and wounded many people penultimate Tuesday February 17th 202 at about 10 am, a group of 29 CDA leaders and members has called on the Federal and State government to Re- Design the spot which has been a source of sorrow and death since 1996.

It will be recalled that on March 5 1996 , a similar incident occurred that led to the death of 22 persons and many vehicles burnt.

Subsequently, accidents has been constantly occuring on the same spot nearly every month.

According to the Chairman of Ifesowapo CDA in ILO Ota, “.Pastor Oyero Olurin,the Toll Gate area is under the jurisdictions of Iyonu-Oluwa ACDC and we need to engage the governments at all tiers to come alive to their responsibilities by Re- designing the Toll Gate area because we have three major roads converging at the same spot without any guardrails”.

Also, a retired Engineer and Vice Chairman of Anu-Oluwa CDA in Ota, Engr. Philip Akiniyi , affirmed that an overhead bridge is the ultimate solution to the frequent fatal crashes in the area.

Said he ” .. the impression we got when the road were been constructed under the administration of Governor Amosu was that an overhead bridge would be built. The bridge would go from ILO Awela to Lagos and also towards Abeokuta road. Only flyover will permanently solve the problem.”

The Chairman of Iyonu-Oluwa ACDC, Rtd. Capt. Musiliu Ishola appealed to all the Chairmen to enlighten the members of their CDAs to refrain from selling goods at the Toll Gate as this incessant accidents are becoming too frequent and claiming lives and maiming a lot of people.

Speakers after speakers described the rowdiness of the place aledging that the Police, and the Road Safety Corps and the Road Unions are complicit in the issue as they are the ones giving implicit permission for the traders, motorcyclist and the busses to use the spaces illegally after paying them “Obstruction Fees”

In his reaction to the protestations calls, the representative of the Ogun Ministry of Community Development, Mr. Olateju Akeem calls for calm and assured the 102 attendants that the State Administration under Prince Abiodun is a listening and responsive government. He promised to take the complaints to the appropriate quarters for quick and adequate attention.
