Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled Boko Haram/ISWAP elements attempting to cross from Cameroon into Nigeria around the Galakura general area of Borno State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the encounter occurred at about 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday during ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V.

The source said troops, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), made contact with the terrorists who were trying to infiltrate Nigeria through the border axis.

“Troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray back towards the Cameroon axis,” the source said.

He added that troops immediately initiated pursuit and exploited the general area, although no further contact was made with the fleeing terrorists.

During the exploitation, the troops recovered two motorcycles, two bottles of palm oil, a sack of beans, one blanket and other sundry items suspected to belong to the terrorists.

The source said troops were currently dominating the thickly forested boundary area to deny the terrorists freedom of action.

“Effective monitoring of the general area is ongoing. Troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain satisfactory,” he added. (Zagazola)
