The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully thwarted a planned large-scale attack on a community within the Territory, following credible intelligence and a coordinated tactical operation by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The breakthrough comes after recent kidnapping incidents in ACO Community and other parts of Gwagwalada and Bwari, prompting the Commissioner of Police to direct intensified efforts to dismantle the criminal syndicate behind the crimes.

Intelligence later revealed that the gang had concluded plans to launch another violent attack on or before December 1, 2025, targeting residents for abduction, ransom, and further harm.

Acting swiftly, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on November 30, 2025, at about 2:11 p.m., traced and arrested a key conspirator, Sani Mohammed Umar, also known as Boko — a wanted kidnapper and armed robbery suspect. His mobile phone, believed to be the primary device used for coordinating criminal operations, was recovered.

Investigations confirmed that Umar belonged to the gang responsible for previous attacks and kidnappings in ACO, Dupa, and Gwagwalada, as well as multiple armed robbery incidents across Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. He confessed that his accomplices were waiting for him at Gada Biyu Hills, Kwali, where they had converged to begin their next attack.

At about 11:01 p.m., the Anti-Kidnapping team, led by the Officer-in-Charge, advanced into the forest, reached the gang’s meeting point and staged a strategic ambush. On sighting the operatives, the armed bandits opened fire, sparking a fierce 30-minute gun battle. Three of the bandits were neutralized, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

A joint operation involving Police operatives and the Forward Operation Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Army, 176 Battalion, Kwali, is ongoing. Security teams are combing the forest and blocking escape routes, while medical facilities in the area have been alerted to report anyone presenting with bullet wounds.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and expressed gratitude to residents for their timely intelligence. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing useful information with security agencies.
