Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state amidst an uncertain political future.

Adeleke was said to have resigned from the party by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on November 4, 2025.

His resignation letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman for Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, of Ede North Local Government, Osun State.

The resignation letter reads: “Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.

“I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.”

So far, the moves by the governor to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) have been rejected.
While the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, stood against Adelkee’s defection to the APC, a former two-term governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, stood against him in the ADC.

According to available information, Oyetola is backing a former Director General of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji for the governorship ticket of the APC.

The ADC had last week issued a statement saying that there was not yet a preferred candidate for the governorship election next year.
