Tragedy struck at St Peter’s Claver junction, in the industrial city of Nnewichi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State over the weekend, as two school children got electrocuted to death while taking shelter from rain.

According to an eye witness account and a CCTV footage, the children whose identities are yet to be officially disclosed, were among several pupils who sought shelter in a roadside shop during the heavy rainfall on the day of the incident.

It was learnt that tragedy struck when the wet bodies of the two school children came in contact with a nearly live metal in the place, and they were electrocuted on the spot, even as others narrowly escaped.

Effort to get the reactions of the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, on the incident proved abortive, as she yet to respond to her call as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the entire community and the state at large has been thrown into mourning.
