Ogun state government seems to have made up its mind to enforce the state anti Land grabbing Law.
Today,Wednesday,September 24 the Task Force on Land grabbing made some arrests at Iweke- Ilaro .
Newdawnngr.com.sources revealed that the Task Force under the supervision of Police ACP Mustapha swung into action under heavy rain to apprehend some thugs known as Ajagungbales.
It will be recalled that it was widely reported that land grabbers in their numbers invaded five villages in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government area terrorizing farmers and chasing them off their farms while they surveyed and bulldozed their cocoa, palm tree and cassava farms.
Only last week some commu items and villages in Ilaro and environ sent a petition and appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the State House of Asembly on the activities of the land grabbers who have displaced many communities of their ancestral landLand.
The state government last week charged a traditional ruler in Ota division to court for activities bordering on Land grabbing in his domain.
The efforts of the Task force it was gathered is in line with the determination of the state government to avoid beeakwodn of law and order as the land grabber have made some areas in the state unfovernable by denying ancenstral land owners their inheritance.
It will be recalled that Ogun State is one of the states in the country to enact and sign into law the Anti-Land Grabbing Law
dedicated law against land grabbing, following years of violence, extortion, and unlawful displacement of landowners by so-called omo onile and hired thugs.
The Ogun State Anti-Land Grabbing Law, 2016, signed by then-Governor Ibikunle Amosun, prescribes severe penalties—including up to 25 years imprisonment for offenders who forcefully take over land without lawful authority.
The law also criminalizes harassment of landowners by traditional land speculators and empowers the government to establish a Task Force on Anti-Land Grabbing to investigate and prosecute offenders.
It was designed to safeguard peace, protect genuine landowners, and encourage agricultural and industrial investment in the state.
Despite this legal framework, incidents of land grabbing have persisted in several parts of Ogun State, prompting farmers, families, and communities to call for stricter enforcement.

In an effort to make large scale farming more attractive in Ogun State, a Stakeholders’ meeting was arranged to receive contributions as to how to tighten up the law and recommendations include stiffer penalties to Traditional Rulers and colluding Security Agents.
The planned Annexation to the existing law is already before the State Assembly.
