The governor is set to make his first official address as he formally assumes duty after six-month suspension.

Fubara, who arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday afternoon made the announcement while addressing residents and supporters who received him on his arrival at the airport.

It will be recalled that the mammoth crowd had converged at the VIP section of the airport on Friday morning despite yesterday’s disappointment at the State Government House where they initially converged to receive the governor.

Fubara had however failed to show up, leaving the crowd to slowly disperse after hours of waiting.

The governor eventual arrival today however sparked wild jubilation amongst the crowd who cheered him as he disembarked from his flight.

Addressing them at the airport, Fubara announced that he will officially address the state by 6pm.

The governor expressed his gratitude to the residents and his supporters for their show of solidarity.

He pledged to acknowledge every individual and authorities who contributed to the restoration of normalcy in the state.

“I know everybody want to hear something from me. I’ve been expecting it when I landed from the aircraft. Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers state. I am really humbled by what I saw at the airport.

“I was also briefed with photographs of what happened here yesterday.

“That reception really humbled me. It shows love, confidence, and solidarity.

“It is not just a celebration, a massive reception by the number of people who came out but a display of reaffirmation between the government and the people we are serving.

“We are going to address the state officially by 6pm this evening.

“In that state broadcast, every other person, every personality, every authority that gave support to this normalcy will be properly recognised.” The governor said.

President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday lifted Fubara’s suspension following his declaration to an end to the six months emergency rule in the state.

Ahead of the governor’s return, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd), the Sole Administrator appointed by the President had handed over the helm of affairs of the state and departed from the government house.
