In the spirit of leading by example,all efforts are in top gear to get a locally built CNG compliant official vehicle for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This initiative by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas,PiCNG is to promote the use of the vehicles within official circles.
Engineer Michael Oluwagbemi,the Director of the PICNG initiative who broke the news at an interactive session with Online Publishers said the body in cooperation with private sector has shifted focus on ensuring the local production of conversion kits from petrol and Diesel to CNG powered vehicles in order to reduce the cost of conversion.
He highlighted the reduction in the cost of transportation and reduction in the cost of food as one of the aims of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Federal government.
The intention is also part of the move to achieve a reasonable target of 1 million CNG vehicles by 2027.
To achieve the conversion,he disclosed that efforts are now directed on high impact areas of the economy since 80% of Nigerians use public transportation.
He maintained that the road transportation is responsible for moving goods and services.
He also hinted that the PICNG intends to drive an aggressive movement such that the industry could create sustainable jobs.

He said gone are the days when Nigeria will continue to import poverty by exporting its crude oil while it is indirectly exporting jobs to foreign countries who build refineries and send the finished products back to us as consuming nation.
He disclosed that Nigeria has 35% of Gas deposit in the whole of Africa.
Oluwagbemi also spoke of sustained efforts to encourage the private sector to embark on industries that would produce conversion kits since it is a business line which the Federal government is not supposed to embark on but provide enabling environment for local production of conversion kits.
