Discordant tunes among the members of Senate Committee on Anti- Corruption put on hold the confirmation of Olanipekun Olukoyede, as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .

It could be recalled that the Senate had saddled the confirmation of Olukoyede with Senate Committee on Anti-corruption after reading the letter of his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, trouble started after the Chairman, Senator Chukwuka Utazi concluded the presentation of the report of the Committee recommending Olukoyede for confirmation because satisfied the Committee by demonstrating competence and sufficient experience to occupy the office for which he was nominated.

Consequently, the Committee, having found him qualified and worthy of the office, recommended that the nominee is confirmed as requested by the President.

But, member of the Committee, Senator James Manager observed that only a few members of the Committee signed the report of the screening but noted that since the nominee satisfied the requisite experience and professional requirement, he should be confirmed.

Concurring with Senator Manager’s position, Senator Isa Misau opposed the confirmation of Olukoyede, alleging that most members of the Committee were not carried along in the screening exercise.

He also posited that he observed during the screening that some of the nominees were not competent to hold the offices for which they were nominated, querying why only three senators signed the signature page of the Committee report.

But, the Chairman of the Committee quickly explained to Misau that he was absent at the screening session like some other members.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki in his ruling urged the committee to meet again over the report before tabling it for confirmation at another legislative day.
