A lion, a python, a crocodile, and other wild animals have been discovered in the residence of the former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, and have been evacuated to the Kano Zoo.

The Managing Director of Kano Zoo, Sadik Kura Muhammad, made the development public when he featured on a radio programme in Kano.

Muhammad said the python, which had escaped from the home of Idris, was recovered.

He said Idris willingly handed over the animals to the authorities after a public uproar in his area.

He said: “There is a law called the Wild Animal Law, which permits individuals to keep certain wild animals in their homes.

“These may include endangered and non-endangered species.

“When I heard about the situation, I verified that he had a license and that the lion was still a cub, posing no harm.

“But once such animals reach a certain age, they must be transferred to the zoo.

“That’s why the license must be renewed annually to ensure safety.

“Before any animal becomes potentially harmful, it should already be in our custody.”

“We collected them, and they are now safely housed in Kano Zoo.

“We conducted the evacuation at night, so there is no cause for alarm.”

It will be recalled that Idris, who was Accountant General of the Federation during the late President Muhammadu Buhari regime, was arrested in 2022 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly diverting N109.5 billion public funds.
A sum.of N30billion had allegedly beubg recovered by EFCC from him before the end of President Buharis tenure according to Newdawnngr.com sources.
However, when he was reassigned last year for continuation of the trial he reportedly expresses surprise that the anti graft agency continued his trial despite having coughed out N30billion from his loot.
