Members of the Kannywood, stakeholders after the meeting
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured stakeholders that preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections are already underway, with a formidable opposition coalition in the works to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement shared after a meeting with a delegation of Kannywood figures and key opinion leaders from the North West, Atiku declared that “2027 will not be business as usual,” insisting that the coalition being formed is “not a joke” and will soon be officially unveiled.
The delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a prominent Zamfara politician and head of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum, a coalition of digital media stakeholders. The group includes members of Kannywood, Zamfara Top 10, and other grassroots and online advocacy networks.
According to Atiku, the group informed him that their mobilization efforts stemmed from a post-mortem of the 2023 elections, particularly gaps in voter education and digital engagement.
He said some members of the forum who previously supported the Tinubu-led APC government have now expressed regret and are throwing their weight behind the new opposition alliance.

“I told the forum that the envisaged coalition is a deliberate and strategic effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people,” Atiku said. “I was particularly inspired by the North West stakeholders’ revelation that they are mobilizing ahead of 2027 to support the opposition coalition.”
He urged the delegation to intensify public enlightenment efforts and raise awareness about the coalition’s vision and goals. Atiku also emphasized the coalition’s readiness to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and governance challenges, stating that its leaders possess both “the individual and collective capacity” to restore the country.
The renewed momentum signals Atiku’s growing engagement with grassroots and media influencers as opposition forces prepare for what may be a fiercely contested 2027 election.
