The management of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, Rivers State says it is engaging security agencies over the killing of its 300-level student of Computer Science, Godwin Akpakpan.
In a statement, the Head, Information, Publications and Public Relations, UNIPORT, Doctor Sam Kpenu, said it expected a thorough investigation by the security forces as well as appropriate actions in line with justice and the rule of law.
The statement also notes that the institution received the news of the alleged security operative’s killing of Akpapkan with a deep sadness, though the incident occurred outside the University campus and premises
.
The document also confirms that the deceased was a bonafide member of UNIPORT’s academic community, and urges students to remain calm and allow the relevant agencies to carry out their investigations.
It adds that the University remained committed to the safety, dignity, and well-being of all students and staff, and would continue to take necessary steps to uphold the values.
