Unity Cup: Nigeria Struggle to Retain Cup beat Jamaica 5-4 on Penalties.

Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford in London struggled to retain the Four Nation Unity cup beating the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica 5-4 on penalty shootout.

Substitute player, Dwayne Atkinkonson who took the 4th kick for Jamaica lost the cup with his faulty kick. Substitute Kelechi Ihenacho who came in for injured Samuel Chukwueze scored the 1st kick for Nigeria; Richard King stepped in to score for Jamaica; Moses Simon got the 2nd kick right same as Isaac Hyden; Tolu Arokodare put in the 3rd kick and R.Morrison made it a pulsating moment that made spectators to stand on their feet.

Onyemachi came forward and scored the 4th shot for Nigeria only for Atkinson to lose; Then Uche scored the 5th for Nigeria but the 5th for Jamaica scored by Amarii Bell does not matter again NIGERIA WON THE MATCH AND RETAINED THE CUP!

Nigeria opened the score sheet through Moses Simon in the 9th minute from a Cyriel Dessers assist but in the same manner Nigeria scored, 20 year old Kaheim Dixon combined well with Renaldo Cephas to equalize in the 12th minute.

Midfielder, Nathan Tella crossed a pass to Samuel Chukwueze who got Nigeria’s 2nd goal in the 53rd minute but ten minutes later Jon Russell equalized for Jamaica from another Cephas connection.

Top players of Nigeria who were in camp did not play the match and spectators asked for Victor Boniface. Ahmed Musa who played against Ghana today married his 4th wife in Kano Nigeria’s Northern City that lost 20 Sports returning from the National Sports Festival in a gruesome accident Saturday Morning just 50 kilometres to enter Kano.

Reigning African Footballer of the year , Ademola Lookman was in Lagos to present his trophy to Nigeria’s President and the Governor of Lagos State while Victor Osimhen was also enjoying the Lagos breeze.

To get to the finals, Jamaica struggled to beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 after leading 2-0 while Nigeria played a very low second half performance that almost made the Black Stars of Ghana to stage a comeback from the 2-0 score line of the first half as the Nigeria Ghana match ended 2-1 in favor of Nigeria.

Nigeria never won a match against the lowly rated Reggae Boyz of Jamaica perhaps because Jamaica’s Reggae Jamz always overwhelm the Reggae loving Nigerians who love partying all night long.

Twice they met all ending in a draw and goalless at International friendly matches on 20th November 2002 and on 11th February 2009.

Jamaica, rated 63rd in the world by FIFA made only one world cup finals appearance at France 98where the team’s reggae high decibel was put out at the group stages. They were 3rd in group H that had Argentina, Croatia and Japan. Jamaica lost 1-3 to Croatia; 0-5 to Argentina but beat the High tech Japanese 2-1.

In that France 98 games, Nigeria rated 43 topped group D that had Paraguay; Spain and Bulgaria. Nigeria beat Spain and Bulgaria but lost 1-3 to Bulgaria Denmark ousted Nigeria 1-4 at the round of 16. Nigeria actually has 6 appearances at the world cup finals but had best performances of losing at the Round of 16 thrice in 1994; 1998 and 2014.

Earlier thus afternoon, the Black Stars of Ghana clinched the 3rdposition with a 4-0 drubbing of Trinidad and Tobago.

Captain Jordan Ayew played a major role scoring the first goal at the 6th minute from an Abu Francis assist and Jordan himself gave two assists before he was substituted. He gave a telepathic pass to Razak Simpson to score the second goal in the 12th minute and linked Muhammed Fuseini to score the third goal in the 47th minute.

Defender Gideon Mensah found Lawrence Agyekum who scored the 4th goal in the 58th minute. Gideon wore the Captains’ band for the first time in his career when Jordan Ayew was pulled out in the 60th minute.
