2 charged with robbery of N50m groundnut oil, N41m petrol

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Thursday ordered remand of Azeez Bashiru and Olaoluwa Oyekunle for allegedly robbing some men of groundnut oil worth N50 million and petrol worth N41 million.

Bashiru, aged 30, Oyekunle, aged 35, also allegedly robbed their victims of trucks and a phone.

The duo, whose addresses were not provided, was charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take their pleas for want of jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to Oyo Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

She adjourned the case until July 15 for mention.

The prosecutor, Insp Kemi Oladapo, had told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 20, about 10.00 p.m. on Ibadan/Ijebuode Road.

Oladapo alleged that the defendants, while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons, robbed one Mr Saidu Adamu of a phone and a DAF Truck containing 29, 960 litres of groundnut oil worth N50 million.

Oladapo alleged that the defendants also robbed Mr Buba Dahiru and Mr Adamu Umaru of trucks loaded with petrol worth N41 million.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State and Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004. (NAN)(
