The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the fatal motor accident that occurred on 12th May, 2025, along G.U. Ake Road, Port Harcourt.
The statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer Rivers state, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said a 36 years old man, Benson Peter Michael, drove a Toyota Camry, lost control of the vehicle and collided with six pedestrians.
“Tragically, four of the pedestrians were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to BMH Hospital for medical attention.”
“The driver of the vehicle is currently in custody, while the accidented vehicle has been recovered and taken to the station. The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Mortuary.”
The command said the case will be transferred to the State Traffic Department for further investigation.
The Command regrets the unfortunate incident and assures the public that justice will be served.
