The recently dismissed Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, made a surprising return to the Assembly complex this morning.
However, UPSHOT has learned that his unexpected arrival was met with disapproval from Assembly staff, who gathered outside the complex without any welcome. According to sources, Mr. Onafeko ultimately departed without receiving any formal acknowledgment from the staff.
His appearance follows a ruling from the National Industrial Court in Lagos, which mandated his reinstatement after he filed an ex parte application through his attorney, Yusuf Nurudeen. This legal action was against the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, the Attorney-General of Lagos State, and Mr. Ottun Babatunde.
Onafeko was removed from his position on January 13, in the wake of the ousting of Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as Speaker, with the former Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, stepping into the role.
In light of the ongoing tensions surrounding leadership transitions, security remains heightened at the Assembly gates.
