A small plane crashed into the rooftop of a commercial building in Southern California on Thursday, killing two people and injuring 19 others, authorities said.
The Fullerton Police Department and fire personnel responded to the crash, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time, about half a mile from the Fullerton Municipal Airport, according to police spokesperson Kristy Wells.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Nineteen individuals working inside the building were injured. Eleven were transported to area hospitals for treatment, while eight others received medical attention on-site and were released.
Authorities confirmed that the two fatalities are believed to be the occupants of the plane. Their identities will be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders evacuated the surrounding area as an active fire broke out. Television footage showed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the building, which houses a furniture manufacturing business.
The crash triggered a four-alarm fire, prompting a significant response from firefighters and police. U.S. Rep. Lou Correa, representing parts of Orange County, acknowledged the incident in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), extending condolences to those affected.

Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung, on behalf of the City Council, commended the efforts of first responders and the resilience of the local community.
“As we come together in the wake of this tragedy, the City of Fullerton is committed to providing support for all those affected and working with the agencies involved to uncover the details of this incident,” Jung said in a statement on Facebook. “We are grateful for the strength of our community and the compassion we show one another in times of crisis. Together, we will move forward with resolve, care, and unity.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
