In a significant move to enhance hands-on learning for its engineering students, Lagos State University received a decommissioned ABT aircraft at its Epe campus on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
This initiative was initiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello whose request was approved by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
Accompanying the aircraft was a team of three experts from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) tasked with overseeing the reassembly process.
On Thursday, November 7, the NAF team commenced the assembly, engaging Aerospace Engineering students in a hands-on experience that many were encountering for the first time.

This initiative is aimed at providing students with invaluable skills in aircraft handling and management, equipping them for future careers in the aerospace industry.
The assembly, which is expected to take ten days, is designed to offer students practical training and operational knowledge. Prof. Elkanah Oyetunji, Head of Epe Campus, and Prof. Nurudeen Raji, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, have pledged to maximize the training benefits for all participants, marking a significant step forward in the university’s engineering education.
